The Healing in the Handmade

How Creative Women Turn Pain into Purpose Through Their Work

I wasn’t planning to record this episode.

But after the weekend I’ve just had - full of market stalls, fairy houses and conversations that stayed with me long after they ended - I couldn’t not talk about it.

It’s easy to forget, especially in the whirlwind of running a business, that creativity is more than a product. It’s often a life raft for many of us. A lifeline. A way to stitch ourselves back together when things fall apart.

This weekend I found myself surrounded by women who weren’t just “making things” - they were healing. I heard some truly moving stories from women who were using their creative business as a way to reclaim their identity, mark their healing and find their place again in a world that had knocked them well and truly off their feet with some major disruptive event. A lifequake.

Some were selling their work, some were just sharing it. But all of them reminded me of something I think many of us know deep down:

We create not just because we love it, but because we need to.

In this week’s episode of Her Handmade Hustle: Unplugged, I’m exploring the quiet power of creativity as a way to heal ourselves after a lifequake. And why the stories behind what we make matter because they are what are going to make you stand out amongst the noise.

Your business should carry a bit of your story at the very least. People think a brand is about your logo, the colours of your website, your fonts - but it’s so much more than that. Your experience, your story behind everything you do and how you came to do it, is actually THE most important part of your brand.

And if you’ve been dealt a shit hand in life then USE it to your advantage. Flip it on it’s head and weave that story into your business. Because the most trusted, respected and admired business owners are the brave. The ones who aren’t afraid to tell their story. And the ones who get up and show up every single bloody day - even when they don’t feel like it.

And if you feel like replying to this article and telling me what your creativity has helped you through, I’d genuinely love to hear.

Thank you as always for listening and remember - you are doing more than you think. And trust me, the world needs what only you can create.

With love,
Joanne x
