The Art of Taking Back Your Body

An Interview with Lucy Thompson on The Life-Changing Impact of 3D Nipple Tattoos After Mastectomy

I was going to save this episode until the summer holidays when I’ll be too knackered to record anything...but it was too damn good to wait that long. Today on the podcast, I’m talking to Lucy Thompson - medical tattooist extraordinaire and founder of the Nipple Innovation Project (NIP) - the UK’s first mastectomy tattoo charity. And this one’s personal - because Lucy tattooed me.

This woman is unbelievably talented. You have to see them to believe them. Lucy is a true pioneer in the art of hyper-realistic 3D nipple tattoos, offering fully-funded tattoos to breast cancer patients who have undergone mastectomy or breast reconstruction.

Lucy helped me reclaim a part of myself that I was really missing after my own preventative breast surgery. There was something about staring in the mirror at two blank discs where my nipples used to be that was such an emotional trigger for me of everything that my family and I had been through.

This episode is about so much more than aesthetics. It’s about healing. Confidence. Closure. And giving women back what was taken away from them through no fault of their own.

I realise that it might not be for everyone. But for those who may be feeling like I did, disturbed by the daily reminder of what was missing from my body every time I caught sight of myself in the mirror, then know that 3D nipple tattoos are a REAL thing - and a REAL option for you.

Lucy’s charity, The Nipple Innovation Project, is giving women access to high-quality, permanent tattoos - free of charge - and we recorded this podcast episode in the hope you can help spread the word to someone who needs this, right now.

Whether you’ve experienced breast cancer, supported someone through it or simply want to know more about this amazing charity and the trailblazing work Lucy is doing - this episode is a must-listen.
